Rediscovering Korea, Discovering a PhD.

Korea remains 8000km away from my desk, but during these past few months it has felt closer than it has been since I boarded the plane home from Incheon in August 2016.

The reason for this sudden closeness is not because I ate kimchi fried rice for lunch (always delicious) but because for the last few months I have started a PhD all about Korea. Through this, I have been able to yet again immerse myself in Korean culture, and also jump feet first back into academic life after almost a decade. I feel that I am still just starting this journey into #PhDlife but as I progress, I’ll be able to share more with you about experiencing and researching Korea from half a world away and, also through the eyes and words of collectors of Korean objects, and museums here in the UK.

It’s certainly different to weekend jaunts across South Korea (!) but I hope my discoveries are just as interesting.
